PGMS Announces 2016 Professional Award Winners

The Professional Grounds Management Society (PGMS) honored several grounds professionals with numerous awards as part of their annual Awards Dinner that took place Friday, Oct. 21 during the 2016 School of Grounds Management & GIE+EXPO held in Louisville, Ky.

tomwebPGMS honored Tom Shaner with the E. Earl Wilson Award; the pinnacle achievement award for any PGMS member. The E. Earl Wilson Award is given to a PGMS member for long-term dedication to the Society and the Green Industry. Tom is receiving this for years of service to not only PGMS, but the Green Industry itself. Tom has been dedicated to the Society’s success, our financial status, membership growth as well as constant guided direction of the organization. He also has been very successful in recruiting new Partners in Professionalism which in turn gives Grounds managers a direct connection to vendors and equipment suppliers. irrigationassoc-webPGMS recognized The Irrigation Association with the PGMS Gold Medal Award. The PGMS Gold Medal is given to an individual or entity to recognize them for outstanding and long-term achievements and/or contributions to the green industry. PGMS salutes Irrigation Association for its leadership and dedication in the area of water conservation and its educational programs and certification of members. Each year the PGMS President is asked to give a President’s Award to a member or members they feel have shown outstanding service and contributions to the Society. This year, Past President John Doiron, CGM honored two professionals with this award.

johnwebJohn Burns, CGM of The University of Texas in Austin received one of the PGMS President’s Awards. He was honored for his many years of leadership to PGMS and for his many hours of work and dedication in developing and coordinating the 2016 PGMS Summer Conference in San Antonio as well as coordinating PGMS’ involvement with the National Association of Landscape Professionals’ “Renewal and Remembrance” project at Arlington Cemetery. Jeff McManus, CGM of The University of Mississippi in University, Miss. received the other PGMS President’s Award. He was honored for the numerous pro-bono leadership education programs presented to members of PGMS and for his coordination of a promotional videos for the Landscape Management and Operations Accreditation and Green Star Awards programs.
