Grounds Operations Manager Facilities University of Massachusetts Lowell/ Lowell, Mass. 10/20/14
The Grounds Operations Manager is responsible for the overall appearance and care of 175 acres of urban University grounds. This care covers lawn spaces, landscaping, tree maintenance, turf maintenance, recreational and intercollegiate field preparation, and campus infrastructure such as roads, sidewalks, parking lots and parking garage maintenance. They will be responsible for managing, coordinating, directing, and supervising a grounds staff of 10; managing the financial budget for the grounds department; and instruction and training of employees in equipment usage and safety. The Grounds Superintendent also conducts studies and makes recommendations regarding new grounds equipment and operational procedures. This position also has lead oversight of the University after-hours and regular hours snow removal and inclement weather response, and motor pool operations for 80+ vehicles and 15 pieces of department equipment. The Grounds Operations Manager is also an active participant in key University activities such as commencement and opening of school.

Penn State Harrisburg is accepting applications for a Maintenance Worker (General) A position with the Office of Physical Plant. Duties included planting, weeding, pruning, and cultivating trees, grass, shrubbery, etc. Apply herbicides, pesticides, and fertilizers. Fertilize, mow, and seed lawns as required. Assist immediate supervisor in compiling daily work schedules. Work with and assist employees in proper landscape methods and procedures, providing corrections as needed. Inspect all grounds, lawns, landscaped areas, and landscaping on a regular basis to ensure that they are maintained in a neat, clean and orderly condition. Report conditions and correct where necessary. Distribute materials, equipment and tools. Install all landscape areas on campus. Maintain job-progress records and prepare necessary reports. Interpret simple sketches and/or specifications. Operate front-end loader for earth moving and vehicle loading operations; perform minor repairs and adjustments. Operate trucks, tractors, power grounds equipment, power saws, chain saws, pneumatic hammers. Maintain athletic areas; mark fields. Remove snow and ice as directed; spread chemicals, sand, cinders and other anti-skid material on walks, roadway and parking areas. Assist with other services, i.e., preparation and setups for special events and clean up following the events. Report needed repairs on or about building or grounds to the supervisor. Operate University vehicle as required. A valid driver’s license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to a standard background check.
