11/3 Northeast Branch Meeting

The Northeast Branch held a meeting November 3rd at Old Sturbridge Village in Sturbridge, Massachusetts.  Old Sturbridge Village is a living museum, a working New England village set in the 1830’s.  Exhibits include a Tin Shop, Cobbler, fully functional water powered Sawmill, a Bank, Schoolhouse, Pottery Shop and many other exhibits.  Attendees had an option to arrive early and take  self-guided tour of the Village grounds.  The garden of heirloom perennials was included as well.

Scott Mackintosh of Atlantic Turf gave a presentation summarizing the recent drought and detailing the effects dry conditions have on plant physiology. A wide ranging discussion of issues arising from the recent dry weather continued through dinner.  As a final presentation Scott discussed potential agronomic steps which would provide the best chance for plants to regain their long term health now that the driest months are over.
