The PGMS Georgia Branch hosted their first outreach program at the VFW Post 658 in Macon, Ga.; the oldest chartered post in Georgia. PGMS took a systematic approach with work ranging from tree trimming, debris clean up, and mowing. Led by Branch President, Brad Barbee, CGM, PGMS had 25 volunteers to show up on January 6 and help return this Post to its former glory. The volunteers were from both PGMS and the veteran community.

When asked about the event Barbee said, “I would like to extend the invitation to other branch presidents to consider starting up their own Grounds Support “call to duty” outreach projects. There is no greater feeling of giving back to those who have given us so very much in return. If anyone is interested in doing so, I am available to discuss joint projects between branches to greater serve our veterans and offer advice/support that they need. Our branch is already considering future locations to volunteer at and we would love the opportunity to have a dual branch event, on a much larger scale.”

About VFW Post 658:  Established in 1921 (the oldest post in the state of Georgia), the 65 acre campus features a 20 acre lake that use to be a vibrant community center, providing picnic and fishing opportunities for local families. Following declining membership and engagement, the post fell into a state of disrepair, however, a group of younger veterans have come together to revitalize this historic post. Services provided include national lobbying for veterans issues and assisting veterans with disability and benefits claims. VFWs support social connection and engagement between veterans through friendship and comradery. If you wish to donate, a paper check can be mailed to: VFW Post 658, 4864 Harrison Rd. Macon, GA 31206.
