About Us

The Professional Grounds Management Society (PGMS®) is an individual membership society of grounds professionals, representing over 1,000 industry professionals in the United States, with members in Canada and overseas. The majority of members are institutional grounds managers who work for organizations such as colleges and universities, municipalities, park and recreation facilities, office parks, apartment complexes, hotel/motels, cemeteries, theme parks, etc. PGMS membership also includes independent landscape contractors, students, educators, and Supplier members.

PGMS is the oldest individual membership organization for grounds professionals and advances the grounds management professional through education and professional development.

The highly acclaimed School of Grounds Management, held twice a year, offers leading education programs in four tracks: Human Resource Management, Business & Financial Management, Technical Horticulture, and Technical Non-Horticulture. PGMS also holds other events throughout the year, many of which are at the local Branch level.

PGMS advances the level of professionalism of grounds managers with its premiere program, the Certified Grounds Manager (CGM(R)). With CGM certification, presentations, requests for funds and equipment, and recommendations carry more weight.

At the institutional level, the Landscape Management and Operations Accreditation program utilizes peer expertise to evaluate strategic grounds management principles and practices that produce and guide the delivery of properties to an attractive, healthy, sustainable, and high quality state.
